It is a national scandal that former miners across Rother Valley, from Maltby to Dinnington to Thurcroft to Brookhouse to Kiveton Park, have had to fight for so long for the pension settlement they deserve. Today, I am proud that Labour ends this injustice and delivers what is rightfully owed back to mining families.
Almost 2000 former mineworkers in Rother Valley will receive an immediate uplift in their weekly pension, overturning an historic injustice and ensuring fair payouts for years to come.
Once and for all, the Investment Reserve from the Miners’ Pension Scheme will be transferred back to miners, boosting pensions by an average of 32 per cent.
This is a victory for the relentless campaigning of the trustees, members, and coalfield communities here in Rother Valley.
