Last week, I held a community event in Maltby to discuss how the £20 million we have secured for our town should be spent. This was the first conversation of many – and over the months ahead, there will be many more events advertised online and through letter boxes. You can also fill in our survey via my Facebook page.
During the meeting, a wide range of priorities were raised, reflecting the needs of the whole community. These included the lack of green space, the need for more activities and facilities for children and young people such as youth clubs and a community hub, and the importance of accessible and inclusive spaces including sensory areas and improved support for disabled and elderly residents.
There was also discussion around town centre issues such as empty shops, concerns about the quality of businesses, and ideas for positive investment in areas like White City and Little London. Improving road safety, footpaths, speed reduction, fixing the road next to Tesco, and creating cleaner, safer streets were highlighted as key concerns. Other points included litter picking, road sweeping, children’s activity clubs, community centres, and support for projects like Maltby Main Football Club and pavilion funding, with a focus on disability access and security.
A strong theme throughout the discussion was the importance of protecting any new or existing investment, including appropriate security measures, fencing, and sensible opening and closing times for recreational spaces.
