As you may be aware, there is currently a visible police presence in the church yard connected to All Saints, Laughton-en-le-Morthen. South Yorkshire Police’s officers are investigating the report of a crime, relating to one grave within the churchyard.
The next-of-kin of the deceased has been informed, and they are being supported by specially-trained Family Liaison Officers. The churchyard is currently closed to members of the public but will be reopened once initial enquiries have been completed.
I understand this may be distressing for those whose loved ones are buried in the churchyard, but the police have offered reassurance that they currently believe this was a targeted incident and there is no threat to other graves. For reassurance, there will be visible patrols in the local area in the coming days.
