Water supplies have now been restored across the impacted areas, although some households may still experience low pressure and some discolouration while the system fully recharges. If your water is discoloured, run the taps for a couple of minutes and this should resolve the issue.
However, I am extremely disappointed that some communities were left without access to water for so long, and people who needed urgent bottled water in these circumstances were overlooked.
I will be taking this up directly with Yorkshire Water to understand exactly what went wrong, why some areas were more severely affected than others, and what steps are being put in place to ensure this does not happen again. I will also be working to guarantee that residents affected are compensated appropriately for this poor service.
I will also be in contact with Northern Powergrid to establish why the backup power provision was not sufficient to prevent the water supply being cut off. Critical infrastructure must be properly resilient and it is unacceptable if contingency arrangements were not strong enough.
Bottled water stations remain available for now, although the station at Chapel Grounds, John Street (S66 9HJ) will shortly be closing. Please continue to check for official updates.
If you are still experiencing issues, please contact my office directly. I will continue to press for answers on your behalf.
