I met a representative from Taylor Wimpey on Wentworth Way, following concerns raised by residents at a recent street surgery. One of the big issues is that children are going straight onto the road via the path along the fields, with no barriers or signage to warn them there is a crossing ahead. There has already been several near misses. We should not have to wait for a tragic accident before action is taken.
I pushed for immediate solutions, including a barrier that still allows pushchairs and pedestrians through, along with clearer signs to make the crossing safer. This would also prevent off-road bikes from using this path, and disturbing local residents. I have also raised the issue of the S106 money connected to the development and how it should be used to improve local facilities and safety measures.
The representative made it clear she would be getting back to me on this and an explanation as to what happened to the original plan for an additional exit road from the new estate to mitigate traffic issues.
I have also chased Rotherham Council to find out exactly where the 20mph signs are and when the speed limit change will finally be put in place. I will not let this drop until we have clear answers and firm dates.
